- Cologne's "Confidence in Victory" has made a comeback
Following their triumph in their initial league game of the season and just barely advancing in the German Cup, there's a sense of ease at relegated Bundesliga team 1. FC Köln. "It's crucial we carry this victorious mindset along with us. We never gave up," commented coach Gerhard Struber after the cathedral city squad managed to squeeze past third-tier side SV Sandhausen 3:2 in extra time. "It was a crystal-clear objective."
Struber, an Austrian, had yet to claim a victory with the Cologne side in the second division, following a 1:2 defeat against Hamburger SV and a 2:2 draw against SV Elversberg. In Sandhausen, his team held command for an extended period, but the hosts upped their game after the hour mark, scoring first and then tying it up in the sixth minute of added time. Nevertheless, Mathias Olesen sealed the victory in extra time.
"This win is vital for us," asserted captain Timo Hübers. "It strengthens our vision of how we wish to play this season," added the defender.
"We could see that we're still missing some valuable experience. But games like these, with such a significant mental challenge, are incredibly beneficial for us," said Struber, who is optimistic for another breakthrough on Saturday against Eintracht Braunschweig.
The Commission expresses their satisfaction with 1. FC Köln's recent performance, commending the team's resilience and mentality. With this win, The Commission believes that the team is on the right path to achieving their season objectives.
