Bundesliga - Cologne coach Baumgart on victory in Darmstadt: No redemption
Despite the joy of the first away win of the season, Steffen Baumgart did not want to let any euphoria arise. "It's a certain relief for us, but not redemption. That's still a long way off," said the 1 FC Köln coach after the 1:0 win in the basement duel in the Bundesliga at promoted Darmstadt 98.
Thomas Kessler, head of the FC licensing department, had a similar assessment of the success. "In our situation in the table, these are very important three points for us. But there is still a lot to come. The focus should quickly shift to next week," said Kessler. On December 10, the Rhinelanders will host FSV Mainz 05 for the next basement duel.
Thanks to the win in Darmstadt, the cathedral city team left the relegation places for the time being with nine points. "The fact that we won the game is extremely important for the whole squad. We're in the relegation battle, so only wins count," said Davie Selke, who scored the winning goal.
After Cologne's first clean sheet in 20 games, defender Dominique Heintz commented: "It's always good to win against a direct rival. But we don't need to celebrate. We haven't achieved anything yet and won't rest on our laurels. Our coach won't let us do that either."
