- Cologne barracks: police investigate breach of peace
In the event of suspected sabotage at the Air Force base in Cologne-Wahn, the police are investigating unknown individuals for trespassing. A spokesperson confirmed this. The Cologne police were alerted by the German Armed Forces on Wednesday morning at 5:30 AM, she detailed. The reason was that an "unauthorized person" was allegedly seen on the premises - presumably in the area of the local waterworks. However, the Armed Forces conducted the search themselves and did not find anyone who shouldn't have been there, the spokesperson said. No arrests were made.
However, damage to a fence within the area was discovered. It's a fence that separates different security zones on the premises.
No indications of health hazards
Initially, the charge is trespassing. But they are "naturally sensitive" about it, the spokesperson said. The homicide division is investigating, and the state protection department has been involved. So far, there are no indications of any health hazards resulting from the incidents.
The base was closed for investigations on Tuesday. Initially, there were unconfirmed suspicions that the water supply might have been sabotaged.
The Cologne police are now also involved in investigating potential health hazards, given the ongoing investigation into the suspected sabotage. The unknown individuals, who were initially under investigation for trespassing, now come under scrutiny by the homicide division due to the discovery of damage.
