Murder trial - Colleague stabbed to death: Prosecution demands life in prison for paramedic
In the trial against a 21-year-old nurse at the Bielefeld Regional Court, the prosecution is demanding a life sentence. The defendant, who confessed to stabbing his colleague with a kitchen knife at the beginning of the trial in a non-public session in Bielefeld, should be sentenced as an adult and not as a juvenile, said the defense attorney on Tuesday.
The defense argued for sentencing the adolescent to juvenile detention and imposing a juvenile sentence of eight years for manslaughter. During the trial, a psychiatric expert determined developmental deficits and a lack of emotional maturity in the defendant.
Driven by murder fantasies
According to the indictment, the man allegedly harassed the nurse several times at a private party for rescue workers on October 29, 2023. The woman finally loudly rejected him.
Driven by murder fantasies, the 21-year-old German then allegedly took a kitchen knife unnoticed and went on a short walk with his colleague. With the 20 centimeter long blade, he suddenly stabbed his victim, according to the indictment. The first stab in the neck hit a major artery.
Defendant requests therapeutic help
The defendant is also said to have stabbed his victim multiple times and only stopped when other partygoers noticed. The woman from Lippe County bled out and died in the hospital that night.
At the end of the non-public session on Tuesday, the sister of the victim read a lengthy and emotional statement. In his final statement, the 21-year-old said that he regretted his actions, hoped for forgiveness, and urgently needed therapeutic help. The verdict will be announced on July 15 at 2:00 p.m.
