Cold Case Claudia Obermeier: Focus on burglary

In the case of Claudia Obermeier, who was killed in Middle Franconia in 1990, investigators are now focusing on a break-in at a building site in Nuremberg. According to witnesses, the break-in is connected to the murder of the then 22-year-old in Röthenbach an der Pegnitz.

For this reason, the police have now also put up their posters asking for information about the case in the east of Nuremberg - and thus in the entire area between the scene of the crime and the location of the burglary, according to a spokesperson for the Central Franconia police headquarters. The investigators hope that this will provide crucial clues.

In the meantime, the police in Nuremberg have received more than 100 tips. However, the spokesman said that there had not yet been any concrete information about the break-in at the construction site. The majority of the tips were received after the ZDF program "Aktenzeichen XY... Unsolved" at the beginning of November.

A walker had discovered the body of Claudia Obermeier in August 1990 in a wooded area in Röthenbach an der Pegnitz. According to the investigation at the time, she was the victim of a sexual offense and was strangled by an unknown male perpetrator.

The evening before the crime, the 22-year-old was at a party with her husband in an allotment garden. She left the party alone at around 2.00 am, but never made it home. Her husband came under suspicion at the time. A court acquitted him in 1998.

The criminal investigation department recently reopened the murder case after a DNA trace was found on evidence from the crime scene thanks to modern analysis methods, which did not match any of the suspects in the case.

According to the police, a comparison with the DNA analysis file at the Federal Criminal Police Office revealed a match with a DNA trace that was left behind 22 years later during a burglary in Nuremberg. However, this suspicion could not be confirmed.

The focus on this new development in the Cold Case Claudia Obermeier has led investigators to expand their search beyond Middle Franconia, as they believe the burglary at a building site in Nuremberg might be connected to the murder. Regrettably, despite receiving over 100 tips following the renewed interest in the case, no concrete information has emerged about the Nuremberg burglary.
