- Coin hoard unearthed in Glotter Valley
Centuries-old Coins were discovered at the beginning of May during the laying of a pipeline near a swimming pool in Glottertal (district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald). According to the State Office for Heritage Preservation (LAD), there are around 1600 coins that were minted around 1320 in the mints of Breisach, Zofingen, and Freiburg.
"In addition, there are a few coins from Basel, St. Gallen, Zurich, Laufenburg, and Colmar," said Andreas Haasis-Berner, archaeologist at LAD. Regarding the value of the coins, Haasis-Berner said: "One could have bought about 150 sheep with these coins."
The archaeological find of Century-old Coins has sparked interest in the field of Archaeology, as they provide valuable insights into medieval trade relations. Further analysis of these coins might reveal more about the economic status of the regions during that period.
