Travemünde: A Coastal Town in Northern Germany - Coastal rescue team aids ill passenger in dire condition
Last night, quick action was taken by sea rescuers after they received word of a severe medical emergency on a ferry travelling in the Baltic Sea. The incident happened on a route heading from Travemünde to Malmö, Sweden. The German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) reported the situation on Sunday. No time was wasted as a rescue boat named "Erich Koschubs" was immediately sent from Travemünde's shores.
The moment the alarm was raised, the distressed ferry turned around and sailed back towards the rescuers. They found the 54-year-old passenger in a critical state, about three nautical miles away from Travemünde. He was promptly given first aid and stabilised. Since the patient was in a critical condition and the distance to the nearest harbour was short, an emergency doctor on board the rescue vessel took over his care while they sailed back to Travemünde. On arrival, the patient was taken to a hospital in a ground ambulance. His condition initially remained a mystery.
