Coach Fischer continues to feel the trust of the club management
Urs Fischer continues to feel the support of the club bosses even after Union Berlin's fall to the bottom of the Bundesliga table. "I have confidence in them, the club management has made it clear," said the 57-year-old Swiss on Sunday after his team's clear 0:4 (0:1) defeat at Bayer Leverkusen. By his own admission, however, he cannot be completely sure of his future: "But I have said that this is no guarantee of a job. The situation is always being reassessed."
Since taking office in 2018, Fischer has led the club from the Bundesliga 2 to the top flight and into European competition three times. As a result, he continues to be held in high regard by many fans. Even after the poor performance against league leaders Leverkusen, they applauded the coach. "Of course that helps. Not just me, but the staff and the team, when you enjoy the support of the fans, even when things are going really badly. That's one thing that can help you get back on track," commented the coach.
He expects to still be on the Union bench after the international break in the home game against Augsburg on November 25. "We have to address this game in Leverkusen thoroughly - we have enough to do in the two weeks," said Fischer.
Despite Union Berlin's struggles in the Bundesliga, scoring only one win in their last seven matches and finding themselves at the bottom of the table, Fischer's position as coach remains secure, as evidenced by his statements after the 0:4 loss to Bayer Leverkusen. Fischer praised his team for their resilience and expressed his hope of continuing to lead Union Berlin in their upcoming home game against Augsburg, despite the team's current placement in the league and the challenges ahead.
