Coach Eichner: Karlsruher SC would benefit from another striker
Coach Christian Eichner would have no objection to another striker at Karlsruher SC. However, the 41-year-old did not want to explicitly address the rumors about the availability and possible return of Mikkel Kaufmann from 1. FC Union Berlin ahead of the home match against 1. FC Nürnberg on Sunday (1.30 pm/Sky).
The area up front has been "a bit scarce since Tim Rossmann's injury at the latest", explained Eichner when asked about Kaufmann at the second division club's press conference on Friday. "That's why the sporting assessment in the coaching team is certainly such that someone would do us good in this position in terms of quantity alone."
Kaufmann, who played for KSC on loan last season, could be a suitable candidate. "If someone of this quality is on the market and there are clubs looking for strikers, it's understandable that they would consider a player like that, for example," said Eichner. However, he also added: "In my opinion, he's not on the market at the moment, and above all, we don't have a market yet."
The transfer window does not open again until the winter break. KSC would have liked to keep Kaufmann in the summer. The 22-year-old Dane has hardly played a role at Union so far.
Coach Eichner expressed interest in acquiring a new striker for Karlsruher SC, as the team has been lacking in this position since Tim Rossmann's injury. The transfer window for Bundesliga 2 clubs like Karlsruhe SC won't reopen until the winter break, and there have been no indications yet that Mikkel Kaufmann, who played for KSC on loan last season, is available for transfers.
