Union Berlin's assistant coach Marie-Louise Eta has now also made history in the Champions League. The 32-year-old became the first woman to be part of the coaching staff in a men's top flight match on Wednesday evening in the 1-1 draw at SC Braga. "Congratulations, Marie-Louise," congratulated the European Football Union (UEFA) on its social media channels.
In last Saturday's 1-1 draw against FC Augsburg, Eta had already become the first female assistant coach to be part of the coaching staff in a Bundesliga match. After working under interim coach Marco Grote, new head coach Nenad Bjelica brought her into his coaching team.
Marie-Louise Eta and 1st FC Union Berlin continued their unprecedented run in European football, as she also became the first woman to feature in a men's Champions League match, joining the coaching staff during the 1-1 draw against SC Braga.
