- Co-Students Shot - Defendants and Counterclaims
The trial against a 15-year-old for fatally shooting a 14-year-old in Lower Franconia will continue today (9:00 AM) with the closing arguments. Both the defense and the civil party will present their views on the crime.
The defendant, a German, admitted to the fatal shooting at the start of the trial. He claimed that the shot was not intentional. The incident occurred last September on the grounds of a school in Lohr am Main, northwest of Würzburg. The two boys attended the same middle school in the small town in the Spessart region.
The prosecution has already presented its case, calling for eight years and nine months in a juvenile detention facility. They argue that the crime qualifies as murder, as the shot was fired from behind. They also requested that the court consider preventive detention and order the defendant's placement in a social-therapeutic facility.
The defendant's lawyer has indicated that they will argue for a charge of manslaughter. The parents of the deceased Italian boy are acting as civil parties. Their lawyer is also expected to present closing arguments on Thursday. The verdict in this closed trial is scheduled for next Monday (5th of August).
The parents of the deceased boy, who is of Italian origin, are actively participating as the civil party, advocating for a strict punishment. Other mitigating factors, including the defendant's age and potential for rehabilitation, will also be considered during the closing arguments.
