- Clothing Donations Urgently Needed
The Berlin City Mission urgently requests clothing donations. Currently, men's sneakers in all sizes, underwear and socks without holes, and well-maintained sleeping bags and mats are particularly needed, as the City Mission announced. All donations should be in good condition, as if giving them to friends or acquaintances, as funds for cleaning, repairing, or disposing of them are not available.
Items can be dropped off Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 18:00 at the reception of the Berlin City Mission at Lehrter Straße 68, or from 9:00 to 16:00 at the Textilhafen in Storkower Straße 139D. Containers are also available at Lehrter Straße.
Up to 180 needy people come to the clothing room daily, according to the City Mission. There are no bureaucratic hurdles. "The distribution of well-maintained clothing has to do with human dignity," it says on the website of the evangelical association. Clean and undamaged clothing can strengthen self-esteem. The goal is to equip each person so that they cannot be recognized as homeless.
Despite the daily influx of up to 180 needy individuals, the distributed clothing should help conceal their homelessness. Contributions of clothes, especially men's sneakers, underwear, and socks, along with sleeping bags and mats, significantly aid in this effort.
