Traffic - Closure between Kellinghusenstraße and Barmbek lifted
The closure between U-Bahn stations Kellinghusenstraße and Barmbek will be lifted starting Monday. Due to the barrier-free renovation of Saarlandstraße station on Line 3, this station has been closed for the past six weeks. However, construction work at the station continues. Saarlandstraße station will then be one of the last stations in Hamburg to be barrier-free, starting summer 2025. The station will receive two elevators and a guidance system for visually impaired people as part of the renovation. Simultaneously, the platform lengths will be extended to 125 meters and the roof, windows, and lighting of the historic station building will be renewed. After completion of construction work in summer 2025, U3 stations Sierichstraße and Sternschanze are still planned for renovation in the Hamburg U-Bahn network. Station Sierichstraße will be made barrier-free in 2028, while a new building is planned for station Sternschanze.
Despite the lift of the closure at Kellinghusenstraße and Barmbek U-Bahn stations, traffic in the Barmbek area might still be affected due to ongoing construction at Saarlandstraße station in Hamburg, Germany. On Fridays, some sections of the U3 line might experience temporary blockings, causing delays in traffic flow and affecting commuters heading to or from Hamburg, particularly those near the Saarlandstraße station.
