Clinics demand financial security
The clinics in Lower Saxony have called for rapid economic security. The existence of many clinics is threatened by the energy crisis, inflation, increases in operating costs and high wage settlements, warned Hans-Heinrich Aldag, Chairman of the Hospital Association, on Monday in the run-up to the Minister Presidents' Conference.
A "comprehensive hospital death" could only be stopped by decisive political action at federal level. "We call on those responsible in Berlin not to forget the hospitals, even in times of numerous crises," said Aldag.
According to the information provided, the hospital association supports the joint demand of the federal states to the federal government to ensure adequate funding for hospitals. This includes retroactively compensating for cost increases in the future and also in 2022 and 2023. The federal states also called for a five billion euro one-off emergency aid program for hospitals whose existence is threatened.
"An unprecedented wave of bankruptcies in the hospital landscape must be avoided in the interests of the public," said Aldag according to the press release. A "chaotic structural change through insolvencies" is neither forward-looking nor responsible for society as a whole, emphasized association director Helge Engelke.
The hospital association, advocating for federal states, urgently requests sufficient funding from the federal government to address retirement compensation, cost increases, and wage settlements in hospitals. Without adequate financial support, we risk seeing a mass of hospital closures across Germany, posing significant challenges to the nation's healthcare system.
