"Climate check" for Bremen Senate bills
In future, all Senate bills from Bremen will be checked for their contribution to climate protection. On Tuesday, the Senate decided to introduce the so-called "climate check". The departments are to use the systematic list of questions to assess the climate-related effects of Senate proposals and make them transparent.
"Whether building a school, creating green spaces or discussing an increase in parking fees - the impact on climate protection should always be weighed up," emphasized Climate Senator Kathrin Moosdorf (Greens). "The climate check will enable us to question every Senate bill simply, quickly and comprehensibly with regard to its contribution to climate protection."
The online tool will be tested across all departments until mid-April 2024, as the Senate also announced. From May 2024, the "climate check" will be mandatory for all new Senate bills.
The introduction of the "climate check" shows the government's commitment to evaluating the climate impact of its bills. With this system in place, the government aims to ensure that every Senate bill contributes positively to climate protection.
