- Climate activists on the runway at Nuremberg Airport
Two climate activists from the Last Generation have reportedly infiltrated the runway of Nuremberg Airport, according to police. Flight operations there have been suspended indefinitely, according to police and airport officials.
An on-site dpa reporter reports a hole in the fence in the southern area of the runway, with two bolt cutters nearby. Police and firefighters are currently on the scene.
The Last Generation reports several actions at airports nationwide. In pairs, activists in orange safety vests entered the airports in Berlin-Brandenburg, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Cologne-Bonn, and Karlsruhe.
They "peacefully expressed their resistance by displaying banners with the slogans 'Oil kills' and 'Sign the treaty'," the organization reported in a statement. "The runways were not entered."
The two climate activists, whose actions were reported at Nuremberg Airport, face potential legal consequences from The Court of Justice for their unauthorised runway infiltration. Despite not entering the runways, their protests at multiple German airports may lead to broader discussions about climate change and civil disobedience in European courts.
