- Climate activists on the runway at Nuremberg Airport
Two climate activists from the Last Generation have reportedly breached the runway of Nuremberg Airport, according to police. Flight operations there have been suspended indefinitely, according to police and airport officials.
An on-site dpa reporter reports a hole in the fence in the southern area of the runway, with two bolt cutters nearby. Police and firefighters are currently deployed in the area.
The Last Generation reports several actions at airports nationwide. In orange vests, two activists each entered the airports in Berlin-Brandenburg, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Cologne-Bonn, and Karlsruhe, according to the organization's statements.
They peacefully expressed their resistance by displaying banners with the inscriptions "Oil kills" and "Sign the treaty," the organization reported. "The runways were not entered."
The activists who caused the disruption at Nuremberg Airport were part of the group The Last Generation. Due to their actions, flights departing from Nuremberg Airport are currently on hold.
