Court of Appeal - Civil and family cases now with electronic files

The use of electronic files (eFiles) in civil and family cases began at the Berlin Court of Appeal on Monday. "With the introduction of the eFile at the Court of Appeal, we have taken another important step towards the complete digitalization of the Berlin judiciary," announced Berlin's Senator for Justice Felor Badenberg (non-party) on Monday.

This step will significantly facilitate communication and the exchange of files between the instance that receives a complaint, for example, and the Court of Appeal as the court of appeal, it was said.

In September, the eFile had already been introduced at the regional court in civil proceedings. According to the authorities, the Court of Appeal is initially conducting a trial run, during which further adjustments are still possible. According to the law, all files in the judiciary nationwide are to be kept electronically by 2026 at the latest.
