Cultural policy - City votes on new municipal theater building
Frankfurt has been discussing the construction of a new municipal theater for years. Today, some progress could be made, as the city council meeting (4 p.m.) is dealing with the topic. A decision is to be made on the location of the new building. The city councillors decided years ago that the current building would be demolished.
The city council decided on one option during the location debate in November: The opera is to be rebuilt at its current location, Willy-Brandt-Platz. The theater is to be rebuilt a few hundred meters away on Neue Mainzer Straße. If the city councillors agree, the next step will be to negotiate the site with the owners.
