Because of the hefty rainfall for the last couple of days and the resulting surge in the Rhine, communities in Rhineland-Palatinate have set out protective measures. In the Neuendorf district of Koblenz, flood protection barriers have been installed. Specialists predict a flood peak of 6.5 meters as the city declared on Sunday. Tributaries of the Rhine will also elevate. The very first parking lots along the Rhine in Koblenz have been blocked. By Monday morning, it'll be assessed whether more flood protection barriers will be constructed and when the flood protection locks will be closed.

As per a statement from the Mainz-Bingen district, arrangements have been made in Ingelheim and the Rhein-Selz community too. In these two areas, a 10- or 20-year flood is expected in the coming days. Dam guards have been put in place and sandbags have been stuffed. The district implied citizens to stay away from the dams. Ten- or twenty-year floods denote a statistical measurement and imply a flood that happens once, on average, in this time period.

In response to the increased rainfall and potential flood risk, various municipalities in Rhineland-Palatinate are taking precautions. The city of Mainz-Bingen has prepared flood defenses in areas like Ingelheim and Rhin-Selz, anticipating a 10- or 20-year flood. Additionally, flood barriers have been installed in other vulnerable locations along the Rhine, such as Neuendorf, Koblenz. These protective measures are crucial due to the impending flood peak predicted to reach 6.5 meters, a significant increase in weather conditions.

Furthermore, according to the city's declaration, tributaries of the Rhine will also be affected, necessitating heightened flood protection measures. In Koblenz, initial flood barriers have already been constructed, and authorities plan to evaluate and potentially strengthen these defenses by Monday morning. The authorities also mentioned the potential closure of flood protection locks once necessary.

Meanwhile, citizens living near dams in affected areas, like Ingelheim and Rhein-Selz, have been advised to stay away. This precaution is taken in light of Dam guards and sandbags set up as additional protective measures to counter potential flooding from the increased Rhine water levels caused by heavy rainfall and storms.
