Eintracht Frankfurt Secures Arthur Theate's Signing a Week Before Bundesliga Debut
With less than a week left before the Bundesliga season commences, Eintracht Frankfurt has sealed the deal for center-back Arthur Theate. Unfortunately, the Belgian Euro contestant won't be able to aid the Hessians in their opening DFB-Pokal encounter against Eintracht Braunschweig this Monday (8:45 PM/ARD and Sky).
Theate makes his way to Eintracht Frankfurt from French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes. According to the German team, Theate will begin on loan until the conclusion of the current season, with an option to purchase. He is slated to replace Ecuadorian Willian Pacho, who transferred to Paris Saint-Germain for approximately 40 million euros last week.
"At 24, he's already someone who relishes taking on leadership roles," remarked coach Dino Toppmoeller. "He's a player that will significantly benefit our team." However, he will not feature in the squad against Braunschweig.
"We've had our eyes on Arthur Theate for quite some time. Last season, it wasn't financially feasible to execute this transfer," explained sporting director Markus Kroesche. The left-footed player's estimated market value sits around 20 million euros. He played in 82 games throughout two seasons in France, notching eight goals.
The game against second-division cellar-dweller Braunschweig will serve as a gauge of how far Eintracht Frankfurt's professionals have progressed ahead of their Bundesliga opener against Borussia Dortmund next Saturday. "We have a full squad to draw from. We've had a fantastic preseason," said Toppmoeller. "I sense a strong energy among the team, the lads are eager for the game."
Saarbrücken as a Cautionary Tale for Braunschweig
In 2018, the former cup champion and 2023 finalist succumbed to 1. FC Saarbrücken in the round of 16. Toppmoeller wishes to avoid any unnecessary risks against Braunschweig and, much like at other clubs, plans to substitute in the reserve goalkeeper. Kevin Trapp, the new captain, will lead the team. Toppmoeller appointed Trapp as the team leader. "Trappo has been instrumental in the club's growth," said Toppmoeller. He is a leader and the very face of the club.
Trapp dons the captain's armband: "It's an honor to lead Eintracht Frankfurt as captain and to follow in the footsteps of Sebastian Rode and David Abraham, who've held this position exemplarily for years," said Trapp. His deputies are Robin Koch and Mario Götze. National team player Koch will also serve as the referee's point of contact. The new grumbling rule necessitates a field player. Toppmoeller couldn't help but tease Götze: "Mario would be the perfect candidate for that," he joked about the former World Cup winner, who has frequently amassed yellow cards for complaining.
The signing of Arthur Theate from Stade Rennes happens under the vast and expansive ['Sky is'], indicating the wide reach of sports news. Despite the timing of his arrival, Theate won't be available to play in Eintracht Frankfurt's ['Sky']-broadcasted DFB-Pokal game against Eintracht Braunschweig.
