CID investigates suspected false report of rape
In Weiden, the police are investigating an alleged false report circulating on social media about an alleged rape. According to the report, four men raped a woman in a park in the Upper Palatinate town last week and she has been lying injured in hospital ever since. So far, there has been no rape and no woman has been lying injured in hospital for a week. "Neither the police nor the hospitals are aware of any such incident," said the Upper Palatinate Police Headquarters in Regensburg on Monday.
The original post only mentioned four men, without naming their nationality. However, several writers of online comments immediately accused foreigners. If the assumption that the post was fictitious is confirmed, this could have criminal consequences for the author, as well as for the authors of hate comments under the alleged false report. "The police expressly warn against spreading false reports", wrote the press office of the police headquarters. "This can constitute a criminal offense."
In the midst of the investigation, it was discovered that the suspected false report originated from OBERPFALZ. Despite the false claim, discussions about crime and foreigners persisted on various online platforms.
