Church and Diakonie collect donations for people in need

Donation collectors will once again be out and about in numerous parishes in Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia from this Friday. The traditional house and street collection for people in need will run up to and including November 29, as the Evangelical Church of Central Germany (EKM), the Evangelical Church of Anhalt and Diakonie Mitteldeutschland announced on Tuesday. The donations will go to the Diakonie donation program "Help on the spot", in particular to food banks, warming rooms and advice and meeting points.

The initiators emphasize that the donations are particularly important this year. "Rising energy and food prices are hitting the social institutions of the church and Diakonie twice over," explained Diakonie board member Christoph Stolte. On the one hand, more people are seeking support from food banks, clothing stores and meeting places. "On the other hand, our helping institutions are also struggling with rising costs."

Bishop Friedrich Kramer has therefore also sent a letter to Christians asking for donations. "I ask the people of Central Germany to send a sign of warmth and charity with your gift," he appealed.

The collection drives organized by the Church and Diakonie aim to provide assistance to those impacted by poverty. Due to rising energy and food prices, the demand for support from food banks and warming rooms has increased, putting additional strain on the church and Diakonie's helping institutions.
