Chunk of earth injures construction worker in Allgäu
Two workers were injured, one of them seriously, while laying cables in the Allgäu region. The two men were laying cables in a trench next to a road in Sigmarszell (Lindau district) on Thursday, according to the police. A truck had driven over the road, which only had one lane. The weight of the truck apparently caused a lump of clay to come loose in the ditch and fall on the two men. Colleagues freed the seriously injured worker, who was taken to hospital by helicopter.
The trench was allegedly not secured against soil slipping during the work. The criminal investigation department is now investigating who is responsible for this.
The lack of soil security in the trench could potentially lead to more accidents in similar construction sites. Despite working in Swabia, this unfortunate incident highlights the importance of safety measures even in rural areas like Allgäu.
