The upcoming memorial service for deceased football coach Christoph Daum, who passed away last Saturday, is scheduled for September 12 at the Cologne EM Stadium. The 1. FC Cologne officially confirmed this news to the German Press Agency on Friday. Previously, "Express" had reported about this event.
During the service, Daum's former clubs, VfB Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen, along with his family, will participate. Moreover, both teams will don black armbands during this weekend's matches as a sign of respect. Additionally, a moment of silence will be observed at the 1. FC Cologne's next 2. Bundesliga home match against 1. FC Magdeburg on September 14.
Daum, born in Zwickau and raised in Duisburg, passed away at the age of 70, surrounded by his family, following a prolonged struggle with cancer. He had been battling the illness since autumn 2022.
VfB Stuttgart, being one of Daum's former clubs, will be present during the memorial service. In honor of Daum, VfB Stuttgart and other participating teams are expected to wear black armbands during their upcoming matches.
