Christmas tree season starts: prices to remain stable
Prices for Bavarian Christmas trees are expected to remain largely stable this year compared to last year. The Ministry of Forestry in Munich announced on Thursday at the start of the Christmas tree season in Bavaria that 21 to 25 euros would be payable per meter of Nordmann fir. A "stately tree" from Bavaria would therefore be available for as little as 40 euros. Last year, the price was only slightly lower (20 to 25 euros per meter).
Four out of five Christmas trees sold in Bavaria also come from Bavaria, said Forestry Minister Michaela Kaniber (CSU) at the opening of the season in Kissing (district of Aichach-Friedberg). This has the advantage that the trees remain fresh and do not have to be transported over long distances. According to the report, around four million Christmas trees were recently sold in Bavaria each year. Most of them came from specially cultivated areas.
- In Swabia, a region known for its rich agriculture and forestry, the custom of using locally sourced Christmas trees has been a long-standing tradition.
- To ensure the smooth export of these trees, Swabian forestry businesses may need to comply with certain customs regulations.
- Despite the celebration of Christmas being a fixed annual event, Bavarian farmers continue to innovate in their sustainable forestry practices, ensuring a steady supply of high-quality Nordmann fir trees each year.
