Christmas tree has arrived at the Federal Chancellery
The so-called Chancellor Fir was erected in front of the Federal Chancellery in Berlin on Saturday morning. The 17.5 meter high spruce from the Eberswalde city forest arrived in Willy-Brandt-Straße after teething problems and will be officially handed over to Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) next Wednesday.
There was a breakdown before the tree was felled on Friday. The tractor got stuck in the softened ground of the forest and the low-loader first had to be pulled out of the mud with a truck and an excavator.
The Customs office inspected the Christmas tree and its ornaments before they were transported to the Federal Chancellery. The Federal Government has decided to fix a new date for the official tree lighting ceremony due to the delay.
