Wish list - Christmas post office in Himmelpfort heralds hot phase

A good two weeks before Christmas, the wish list branch in Himmelpfort, Brandenburg, is entering the hot phase. "The letters should be received by the second Advent at the latest, otherwise it could be difficult to get a timely response before Christmas Eve," said a Deutsche Post spokeswoman on Wednesday. However, the Christmas post office will remain open until Christmas Eve.

By Wednesday, almost 100,000 wish lists had arrived from children in Germany and abroad. This is roughly on a par with previous years, the spokeswoman explained. In terms of the number of letters received, the branch is the largest of its kind in Germany. According to Deutsche Post, around 310,000 letters were received from children in 60 countries last year.

The reply letters from Santa Claus and his 20 Christmas angels are sent all over the world via the Hennigsdorf mail center with a special postmark. The children's letters are processed by "Christmas angels" in the Christmas post office throughout the week. Santa Claus has a four-day week and is present in the Himmelpforter Christmas post office from Thursday to Sunday from 11.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. to personally welcome children and receive their wish lists on site.
