Deadline for Christmas mail - Christmas parcels: Presents must be sent by this deadline
The parcel services are in full swing just before Christmas. If you want to send Christmas mail, you can't be too late so that the presents are under the tree on time. Especially as Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday this year.
Once again this year, Swiss Post and other service providers are giving specific deadlines by which items must be sent to ensure that they reach their destination by Christmas.
Christmas mail with DHL/Deutsche Post
DHL states that parcels and packages within Germany must be sent by December 20 at the latest. With the DHL ExpressEasy service, the deadline is December 21. For letters and postcards, December 21 is generally the latest day. For last-minute shipments, please always note the emptying time at the letterbox or the time of branch disposal.
For parcels sent abroad, the regular deadline was December 14 or earlier, depending on the country. With the DHL ExpressEasy service, shipments to other EU countries still have a chance of being delivered on time until December 21. DHL provides exact delivery times at this address.
Deadlines at Hermes and DPD
Hermes guarantees the first delivery attempt within Germany by Christmas Eve if parcels are handed in at the parcel store by December 19. The Hermes deadline for parcel collections at the front door is also December 19. Hermes parcels are sent to Austria and the Netherlands by December 18, all other countries have earlier deadlines.
DPD recommends posting standard parcels by December 20 at the latest so that they arrive by December 23, the last day of delivery. Priority and Express parcels can still be posted with DPD on December 22 and should still arrive in time for Christmas. For shipments to EU countries DPD specifies December 15 as the deadline.
As a general rule, anyone who sends Christmas mail at the last minute always runs the risk of something going wrong and the shipment not arriving until after the festive period. If possible, it is therefore better to build in a few days' buffer.

To ensure your DHL-delivered Christmas gifts arrive on time, Germany-bound parcels and packages need to be dispatched by December 20, while letters and postcards can go up until December 21. For international deliveries, the deadline is typically December 14, but with DHL's ExpressEasy service, some EU countries might still receive parcels by December 21.
Remember, for last-minute shipments, it's essential to also consider the pick-up time from the letterbox or the branch closure before sending off the packages.
