Assistance mission - Christmas menu preparations for the homeless in full swing
Preparations for a Christmas menu for the homeless from a Michelin-starred chef are in full swing: on Wednesday, Eberhard Lange from the Berlin restaurant "Hugos", which is located in the "Intercontinental" hotel, discussed the Christmas menu with the hotel's head chef and the chef from the City Mission and cooked a sample chicken fricassee.
According to the City Mission, more than 2,400 hot, hearty meals will be served to the homeless between Christmas and New Year. They will be prepared in turn in eight Berlin hotels and the needy will receive the meals on eight evenings in the City Mission's three emergency shelters. Each hotel kitchen prepares around 300 dinners for the guests of the City Mission. Refrigerated buses then deliver to the emergency shelters with, for example, Berlin pea stew with poultry Viennese and bread rolls, beef goulash with red cabbage and spaetzle, chili con carne with rice - depending on the day.
According to Stadtmission, hotels in the capital have been preparing Christmas menus for 17 years - on the initiative of the "Intercontinenal". This year, for the first time, a Michelin-starred chef is involved in drawing up the menu and, in some cases, preparing it.
