Christmas market season opens: Meissen makes the start
The Christmas market season opened in Saxony on Monday. The Free State is particularly known for its unique Christmas craftsmanship, from Erzgebirge arts and crafts to Dresden Christmas stollen and Herrnhut stars, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced on Monday. Highlights in many towns are the historic mountain and hut parades and mountain processions.
The "Meissen Christmas" opened its doors to visitors on Monday. The Christmas markets in Leipzig, Plauen, Zwickau, the Freiberg Christmas market and the Pirna Canaletto market will follow on Tuesday. Dresden's Striezelmarkt opens its doors on Wednesday. The Chemnitz Christmas market, the Wenceslas market in Bautzen, the Silesian Christmas market in Görlitz and the Annaberg Christmas market will be open from Friday.
The municipalities in Saxony strictly enforce customary regulations during the Christmas market season, ensuring a fixed schedule for the opening of each market.
