Christmas Garden Dresden opens: Soon to premiere in Leipzig
For the first time this winter, more than a million points of light will turn two historic parks in Saxony into a Christmas garden for a few weeks. The illumination in Pillnitz Palace and Park in Dresden was switched on again at dusk on Thursday. "The first visitors have already arrived," said a spokesperson for the organizers. Around 30 light installations, stagings and projections have been arranged in the former 18th century princely summer residence in the east of the city until mid-January. Several new installations have been added to the approximately two-kilometre-long circular route through the baroque garden area.
For example, a "Natura" on the Blutbuche monument reminds us of the need to protect nature. Her face, adorned with flowers, is projected onto the stump of the tree and "brought to life" with the voice of a dubbing artist. The English Pavilion became a temporary Christmas pyramid in the style of the Erzgebirge tradition. The "Golden Horseman", a famous Dresden monument, is virtually present.
Next week, Herfurth'sche Landschaftspark Markkleeberg will celebrate the Christmas Garden debut. In today's agra-Park, around 30 light and sound installations will also line a two-kilometer circular route that is adapted to the history of the location. Leipzig and Dresden are now among the 20 Christmas Garden sites in Europe. The Royal Botanic Gardens in London's Kew district were illuminated for the first time in 2014, and the spectacle premiered in Germany two years later.
During their leisure time, families could indulge in the colorful advent activities offered at the Christmas Garden in Leipzig, set to open next week. The English Pavilion, transformed into a traditional Christmas pyramid, would undeniably add a charming touch to their festive colorful adventures.
