Christmas exhibition in Leipzig shows Krakow nativity scenes
Colorful Krakow nativity scenes have been on display in a Christmas exhibition in Leipzig since Wednesday. The special exhibition in the Old Town Hall was created in cooperation with the Muzeum Krakowa, as the city administration announced on Wednesday. It is also intended to celebrate the 50-year partnership between the two cities. The exhibition will be on display until January 28.
The gold-decorated, detailed nativity scenes are made in the old craft tradition. Every year there is a competition in Krakow in which the nativity scenes are exhibited on the main market square. The Muzeum Krakowa includes the winners in its collection. The "Szopie krakowskie" have been a UNESCO Intangible World Heritage Site since 2018.
Visitors to Leipzig's Old Town Hall can explore various nativity scenes from Krakow, showcased in a special museum collaboration for the Christmas exhibition. The city's museum sector has worked closely with Muzeum Krakowa to bring these intricately crafted and historically significant "Szopki krakowskie" displays to Leipzig.
