Christkind post office opens in Bozi Dar in the Czech Republic

In the Czech border town of Bozi Dar, the Christkind-Post starts its 30th Christmas season on Friday. Franked and addressed envelopes that are dropped into a special "Baby Jesus" letterbox inside the post office of the Ore Mountain town will receive a special postmark. The motif this year is an angel, as those responsible announced on Wednesday. In previous years, it has been a Christmas tree, a candle, a star or a winter glove. The tourist information office is also located in the same building.

A standard letter to Germany requires a Czech Post stamp worth 44 crowns, the equivalent of around 1.80 euros. The stamp campaign runs from December 1 to 23 and took place for the first time in 1994. The previous record holder is 2016, in which mail with a total weight of 386 kilos was dispatched.

The winter sports resort of Bozi Dar (Gottesgab) is the highest town in the Czech Republic and has a population of around 350. It is located just a few kilometers from Oberwiesenthal in Saxony and around 60 kilometers from Selb in Bavaria.

Tourists visiting Bozi Dar during the Christmas season can send their letters with a special postmark from the Christkind-Post, as it's located in the same building as the tourist information office. Customs regulations might apply when sending Christmas cards and gifts internationally, so it's essential to check with the postal services beforehand.
