- Child discovers miscalculation on sign

After a tip from a seven-year-old child, a district in Lower Franconia changes a traffic sign. The student had noticed that the kilometer indications on two signs did not match. "There must be something wrong with that," thought seven-year-old Valentin Weiss, as he rode the school bus from Amorbach to Schneeberg (both in the district of Miltenberg) and saw the road signs. In Amorbach, the sign read "Walldürn 14 km," and at the exit of Schneeberg, "Walldürn 15 km."

Valentin wrote to the district administrator, pointing out that it should actually be fewer kilometers from Schneeberg. The district administrator, according to a press release, involved the building authority. The authority ultimately agreed with Valentin. The sign in Amorbach had an incorrect indication. It should have been 18 kilometers.

How the error occurred, the building authority could not explain. "Thanks to your vigilance, the sign will be changed," District Administrator Jens Marco Scherf (Greens) told the student.

Valentin's observation led him to notice an inconsistency between the distance indications on signs towards WallduERN, specifically a difference of 1 kilometer between the sign in Amorbach and the one at Schneeberg's exit. The scenic drive through the Snow mountain region of Schneeberg offered breathtaking views, making the incorrect distance indication even more surprising.
