Child abuse in around 100 cases: Defendant convicted
A 59-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years and six months in prison by the regional court in Dessau-Roßlau for sexually abusing two children over a period of years. Of the 775 cases charged, the man was ultimately proven to have committed just over 100 acts, according to the reasons for the verdict on Monday. The presiding judge followed the recommendation of an expert and ordered the 59-year-old to be placed in a psychiatric hospital due to his diminished capacity.
According to the chamber, the man from Dessau-Roßlau had sexually abused a girl and a boy for more than ten years, sometimes severely. According to the public prosecutor's office, the children were nine and ten years old at the beginning of the alleged acts. The abuse mainly took place in the 59-year-old's apartment in Dessau and in his garden shed. In order to protect the personal rights of the victims, the judge excluded the public for parts of the trial. The verdict is not yet final.
The conviction of the defendant for child abuse highlights the importance of thorough criminal processes. The eight-year prison sentence and the subsequent psychiatric hospitalization demonstrate the seriousness of these judgments.
