Personal details - Chief conductor Prior leaves Theater Erfurt

Chief conductor Alexander Prior is leaving the Erfurt Theater. The London-born British composer and conductor of Russian origin signed a termination agreement at his own request on Tuesday, the theater announced. For personal reasons, he could no longer guarantee the smooth running of upcoming productions over the next few months, it said. Prior's employment at the Erfurt theater will end by mutual agreement on April 1, 2024.

Prior had only come to Erfurt as General Music Director for the 2022/23 season, where he most recently worked as Chief Conductor on the basis of guest contracts. When his contract as General Music Director was terminated, he had already stated that he did not enjoy administrative tasks. His departure was first reported by the "Thüringer Allgemeine". According to the newspaper report, Prior is said to have fallen out with the Philharmonic Orchestra.
