Chestnut tree damaged with acid: police looking for perpetrators
An unknown person has used acid to damage a chestnut tree in the Main-Spessart district. This is already the second acid attack on chestnut trees in Karlstadt, a police spokeswoman said on Tuesday. A tree that had already been damaged in October died as a result and was felled. Investigators suspect that the previously unknown perpetrator probably spread vinegar on the ground. An employee of the municipal building yard informed the police that the tree may now also have to be felled.
The police are intensifying their search for the individual responsible for the acid attacks, as another crime against a chestnut tree has been committed under the cover of darkness. If the tree's health continues to deteriorate, it might meet a similar fate as the one damaged in October, needing to be felled.
