Basketball Bundesliga - Chemnitz top of the table after 79:58 win in Oldenburg
The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has stormed to the top of the Bundesliga table. The players of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore won their game at EWE Baskets Oldenburg by 79:58 (38:26) on Sunday and so celebrated their 16th success in a row in all competitions. In taking over the lead in the table, the club from Saxony benefited from the 89:107 home defeat of the previous leaders Ratiopharm Ulm against the Rostock Seawolves.
Wesley van Beck (28), Jeff Garrett (15) and Aher Uguak (10) played the biggest part in Chemnitz's victory. DeWayne Russell (20), Ebuka Izundu (12) and Geno Crandall (10) scored the most points for Oldenburg.
The visitors only had slight teething troubles in the first five minutes. With a 10:1 run, the Niners turned an 8:9 deficit (6th minute) into an 18:10 lead in the first quarter. The club from Saxony then set the pace and dominated the encounter, in particular with its aggressive defense. With a second spurt in the second quarter, the club from Chemnitz had already decided the game in advance. Their superiority under the baskets (39:31 rebounds) and accuracy from beyond the arc tipped the scales in favor of the new league leaders. Ten of the 31 shots from beyond the arc landed in Oldenburg's basket. The home side hit just four of its 29 three-point attempts.
