At a gas leak in Lohmar near Cologne, a resident and a firefighter were injured on a Saturday morning. The 36-year-old was taken to a hospital in Cologne, according to the police. The other residents of the house remained unharmed. A firefighter had to abandon his rescue efforts in the basement of the house when he smelled a odor in his nose and it started to itch in his throat.

The analysis of the substances was taken over by an ABC unit of the fire department. Furthermore, the criminal police are investigating the causes of the gas leak and the type of chemicals involved.

The gas leak in Lohmar, located in North Rhine-Westphalia, led to a deflagration, causing an explosion in the basement. The nearby Rhine-Sieg district was not affected, but the incident prompted a large response from the local fire department. The injured firefighter, who had to abandon his rescue efforts due to symptoms, was transferred to a hospital in Cologne.
