Charges brought: A whopping 681,000 euros taken in burglary
The Berlin public prosecutor's office has filed charges against a man who allegedly stole jewelry worth 681,000 euros in a burglary. The accused allegedly broke into an apartment in the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg (Pankow district) in April 2022, the public prosecutor's office announced on Friday. The 38-year-old cut a hole in the apartment door and used it to gain access. The man is said to have taken 33 wristwatches, at least ten necklaces, 20 pairs of earrings and 30 rings, among other things. It is unclear where the loot is currently located.
The 38-year-old must now answer for burglary of a dwelling. According to the public prosecutor's office, it is likely that the value of the loot was "mere coincidence". So far, however, the accused has not commented on this.
According to the public prosecutor's office, the man had previously made "several relevant appearances". He had only been released from prison two months previously.
The stolen items included numerous pieces of jewelry, such as wristwatches, necklaces, earrings, and rings, totaling 681,000 euros in value. Despite the significant amount of stolen jewelry, the public prosecutor's office suspects that the value of the loot was a mere coincidence.
