- Changing from filling jug successor Beier to BVB perfect
Maximilian Beier is set to replace Niclas Füllkrug at Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga side spent around 30 million euros in transfer fees to secure the signing of young national team player Beier from West Ham United. The 21-year-old, who participated in the recent European Championship with Hoffenheim, has signed a contract until June 30, 2029, following a successful medical check in Dortmund. Both clubs announced the deal, with Beier previously contracted to Hoffenheim until the summer of 2027.
"Maxi was our top choice after Niclas Füllkrug's departure. Despite his young age, he's very mature on the pitch and stands out with his pace, work rate, and goal threat. Plus, he's versatile and can play in different systems," said BVB's sporting director Sebastian Kehl.
Beier is expected to fill the attacking void left by Füllkrug's departure and is ten years younger than his predecessor. "From the start, I felt how much Borussia Dortmund wanted me, and I had a great feeling. Our goals are the same: we want to win titles. I'll give everything to make that happen," said the Brandenburg-born Beier, who has scored 16 goals in 42 Bundesliga games and could make his debut in the DFB-Pokal against Phoenix Lübeck this Saturday.
Beier is the fifth new signing for the BVB, following Waldemar Anton, Serhou Guirassy (both from VfB Stuttgart), Pascal Groß (Brighton & Hove Albion), and Yan Couto (Manchester City). "We've successfully signed all five of our target players in this transfer period, including three national team players. Several top European clubs were after Maximilian, but we're glad we could quickly convince him to join Borussia Dortmund," said BVB's managing director Lars Ricken.
Beier's signing increases the likelihood of forward Youssoufa Moukoko leaving the club. Moukoko's agent, Patrick Williams, recently complained about the 19-year-old's lack of playing time. French clubs OSC Lille and Olympique Marseille are reportedly interested. Additionally, BVB talent Paris Brunner is close to a move to the French league, with AS Monaco showing interest in the 18-year-old.
Borussia Dortmund and Maximilian Beier have finalized a deal, with the young striker leaving Hoffenheim to join the Bundesliga giants. Beier's signing as FuLLkrug's replacement at Borussia Dortmund was highly anticipated, given his impressive performances in the recent European Championship and his versatility on the pitch.
