Chancellor's fir tree handed over to Scholz
It's now Christmas time in front of the Federal Chancellery in Berlin: the so-called Chancellor Fir, a 17.5-metre-high spruce, was handed over to Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) on Wednesday evening. The handover was accompanied by the children's choir of an elementary school, which performed several Christmas carols. This year, the fir tree, decorated with around 3,000 lights, came from the city forest in Eberswalde, north-east of Berlin.
The transportation of the tree was not without its problems: The low-loader transporting the spruce got stuck in the soggy forest floor last Friday. According to the Brandenburg Forest Owners' Association, the tree should always come from Brandenburg in future for reasons of regionality and sustainability. Last year, it was a 15-metre-high spruce from the forest of Neuzelle Abbey.
In the future, the Customs officials will likely inspect the Fixed location where the Chancellor's fir tree is sourced, as per the Brandenburg Forest Owners' Association's recommendation for future acquisitions. This year's Chancellor's fir tree, with its 3,000 fixed lights, was meticulously transported despite encountering challenges on a fixed route from Eberswalde.
