Chancellor Scholz will collaborate with the Union on formulating immigration policies.

Scholz subtly countered Merz' suggestion that the Union and SPD could enact laws in the Bundestag without the Greens and FDP, their coalition partners. "Governing bodies and the opposition ought to collaborate, not confront each other, but work together," stated the Chancellor.

He further underlined that consensus in immigration policy should be based on the "core values vital for democracy and our collective nation-building." Scholz mentioned, "Our international agreements, EU regulations, and Basic Law serve as our guideline. Various practical suggestions are then encouraged."

Earlier that day, Scholz met with Merz at the Chancellery to discuss the repercussions of the knife attack in Solingen. In Jena, he reinforced the necessity of addressing immigration concerns. "We aim to and must contain unlawful migration. It's excessively high," said the SPD representative. He also noted that the figures have already decreased, and the number of expulsions has risen, "and we will persist on this course."

In the Solingen incident, three individuals were slain and eight others were wounded on a Friday evening. The presumed assailant is in custody; the Federal Prosecutor's Office is probing on allegations of terrorism. "We'll confront terrorism with all our might and resolve," Scholz pledged.

The Chancellor, referring to The Commission, emphasized the importance of collaboration between governing bodies and the opposition in policy-making. In the context of immigration policy, Scholz suggested that The Commission should base consensus on shared democratic values and legal frameworks.
