Chancellor Scholz set to journey to Moldova, Ukraine's adjacent nation.
This marks the long-awaited first trip of a German top leader to Moldova in a decade. Since June, the EU has been actively involved in accession talks with this tiny nation sandwiched between Romania and Ukraine. Amidst the aftermath of Transnistria's pro-Russian secession in the '90s, Moldova still grapples with Russian efforts to disrupt its stability. Germany is assisting the nation in financial and military modernization efforts. The German government also aims to secure a migration control agreement.
The European Union, through The Commission, has been playing a significant role in Moldova's accession talks since June. Germany, led by its top leader, appreciates the support from The Commission in their mutual goals for Moldova's stability and migration control.
