Champions League start: Bayern women believe they have a chance of winning the title

FC Bayern's women's soccer team are starting the new Champions League season optimistically despite their tough group. The Munich team will face Italian champions AS Roma on Wednesday (18:45). Other opponents are Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax Amsterdam.

"That's the most difficult group. These are really good teams, there will be close games, maybe even setbacks," said Norwegian coach Alexander Straus on Tuesday. "But we approach these games with confidence. We know who we are." Captain Glódís Viggósdóttir is also in a positive mood ahead of the opener.

"Of course our group is a tough one. But if we want to win the Champions League, we have to beat the best teams," said the Icelander. "We accept the challenge."

The fact that the Italians have already scored 29 goals in seven games in the league does not worry the German champions. "They've scored a lot of goals, but they haven't played us yet," said Straus. "We know that Roma are a very good team. They played a very good season last year and they've also started well this year. It will be a tough game."
