Champions League: Eintracht women challenge defending champions

Frankfurt/Main (dpa) - The Eintracht Frankfurt women's soccer team will go into the Champions League match against defending champions FC Barcelona as underdogs. The Spanish record champions will come to Deutsche Bank Park for the second group match on Wednesday (21:00/DAZN) with world champion and Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmatí, among others. Eintracht had sold almost 14,000 tickets by Tuesday and is hoping for vociferous support from the fans.

The 2:1 win at FC Rosengard in Sweden has given coach Niko Arnautis' team additional confidence. A good three years after taking over the former European Cup winners 1. FFC Frankfurt, Eintracht will be playing for a place in the quarter-finals of the lucrative competition for the first time. Barcelona had started the group stage with a 5:0 win over Benfica Lisbon.

Despite being the underdogs, Eintracht Frankfurt's women's team is eager to make their mark in the Champions League, facing defending champions FC Barcelona. This will be Eintracht's first attempt at securing a spot in the quarter-finals of the lucrative competition, following their victory over FC Rosengard.
