Champions League and derby: two major operations for the police

The Hamburg police are facing two major soccer operations this week. On Friday evening (18:30/Sky), the city duel between FC St. Pauli and Hamburger SV will take place at the Millerntor Stadium. This top match in the 2nd Bundesliga is a high-risk match, and the police will be deploying a large contingent to strictly separate the two rival fan groups.

The Champions League match between Shakhtar Donetsk and FC Royal Antwerp will take place in the Volkspark Stadium on Tuesday evening (18:45/DAZN). Due to the war in their home country, the Ukrainian champions are playing their international home games in Hamburg this season. Some of the Antwerp supporters are considered violent. There were riots at the Belgians' away game in Barcelona in September

These two games within just four days are "the icing on the cake for the police", said Thomas Jungfer from the German police union DPolG to the "Hamburger Abendblatt" (Monday).

The anticipation for the city derby between FC St. Pauli and Hamburger SV in Bundesliga 2 on Friday at the Millerntor Stadium is high, with the police preparing to manage the large fan groups due to the rivalry. Additionally, the Champions League match between Shakhtar Donetsk and FC Royal Antwerp on Tuesday at the Volkspark Stadium requires extra security measures, as some Antwerp supporters have a history of violent behavior, as seen during their away game in Barcelona.
