Triathlon - Challenge Roth: Lange wants record with special shoe

Patrick Lange is attempting to break the record at Challenge Roth. The two-time Ironman World Champion from Hesse is known for his qualities in the last of the three disciplines: swimming, cycling, and running. This time, he wants to stay under the magical 2:30 hour mark during the final marathon. "I want to make it on Sunday. That's no secret," the 37-year-old emphasized.

It's not just a record for Roth, but generally on the long distance over 3.8 kilometers swim, 180 kilometers bike, and 42.2 kilometers run. "I'm really looking forward to it," Lange said and announced: "Full gas from start to finish."

The Matter of the Dixi Toilet

Last year, Lange needed 2:30:27 hours for the marathon, with a short pause. This time, he won't lose the 27 seconds at the Dixi toilet, Lange emphasized. In his record attempt and in the fight for the win at the classic, he relies on slightly lower temperatures for faster running times. Additionally, he will compete in a special shoe developed specifically for Roth by his supporter.

Last year, Lange had to concede to the Dane Magnus Ditlev, who set a world record of 7:24:40 hours over the distance. Although the Norwegian Kristian Blummenfelt came in first at the Ironman Mexico in 7:21:12 hours, this time is not recognized as a record in the scene due to the strong current. Blummenfelt swam the nearly four kilometers in under 40 minutes.

Dane Aims for the Hat-Trick: Lange Must Get Ahead on the Bike

"He's capable of running under 2:30 hours," Ditlev acknowledged about his German rival. The 26-year-old is aiming for the Roth hat-trick himself, having won in 2022 as well. "I have to get ahead of Lange on the bike, or it will be tough," he stated before the race.

The final phase of the race in Roth will be broadcast live on ARD. The showdown of the men's and women's races will be shown on the First from 13.50 to 14.20 hours and 14.40 to 15.00 hours. Completely live and on TV, Bavarian Broadcast (BR) will broadcast the race starting at 6.15 am.
