CEV Cup: SSC threatened with elimination in the round of 16
After losing in the Supercup and Cup quarter-finals, the SSC Palmberg Schwerin volleyball team is now also facing an early exit from the CEV Cup. In the German clash, the unbeaten Bundesliga leaders lost the first leg of the round of 16 at Dresdner SC 0:3 (28:30, 23:25, 22:25) on Wednesday evening, despite holding a clear lead at times.
In the second leg next Tuesday, the team of head coach Felix Koslowski must now win at least 3:1 to force a deciding set. A 3:2 win by SSC, on the other hand, would give Dresden a point and thus reach the quarter-finals.
Schwerin missed a great opportunity to take a 1:0 lead in the first set. The women from Mecklenburg were already 18:12 ahead and then failed to capitalize on three chances to win the set in the final phase. The second period was similar, with the SSC again squandering an interim lead of six points (15:9). In the third set, which was also contested for a long time, the DSC then used the second of three match points to win.
Four days after the second leg, the SSC will welcome the DSC for a Bundesliga clash. It will be the third consecutive meeting between the Koslowski team and the Dresden team.
Despite the women of SSC Palmberg Schwerin leading in the first set of the CEV Cup round of sixteen, they failed to secure the victory, eventually losing 0:3 to Dresdner SC. This puts SSC at risk of elimination in the CEV Cup, as they now need to win the second leg next Tuesday with a score of at least 3:1 to force a deciding set. The women's volleyball team from Mecklenburg will also face Dresden in a Bundesliga clash four days after the second leg of the CEV Cup, marking their third consecutive meeting in that competition. [SSC Palmberg Schwerin] and [Dresdner SC] are both participating in the CEV Cup's round of sixteen, with the former facing an uphill battle due to their first leg defeat. [The CEV Cup] is a significant tournament for [SSC Palmberg Schwerin], as they aim to advance beyond the round of sixteen and potentially reach the quarter-finals.
